Integrate 3rd Party Products with NTM

Hi, Are there any plans to integrate/import data from other tools like Netbrain ?  Netbrain does a much better job of discovering

topology across multiple platforms. NTM will never be as good as it does not login to the network devices and SNMP info is limited.

Iam trying to create global network dashboards but NTM does not discover some device ( Paloaltonetworks L2/L3 ) connectivity

which makes it pretty basic. Why not integrate with Netbrain fo customer can get the best of both worlds and get Netbrain data for Topology

and use NPM for monitoring. Better yet, Merge or Acquire ?

Network Topology Mapper

Hello all,

Is there recommended auto scan network topology creator out there? Most of our gears are Cisco, HP Pro-curve switches and Windows machines. Solarwinds Lan Surveyor is a good option. Anything similar or better out there?

Please help.

I did not find the right solution from the internet

when I add a SNMP Community string and do a test to my Core Switch it test ok. when I try under the Netowrk selection to add a Seed Device it starts looking for subnets but then it comes up with a error of (unable to retrive subnets from seed device.) this is a juniper EX8200 switch also.

any ideas?

I first did NOT select to sync with Atlas for the first phase. I would like to do so now but do not see a way to do so. What am I missing?

Network Atlas - switches and Access points

Hi I'm trying to create a map to show the relationship between some switches on a remote site and the WAPs connected to those switches. I've added all the switches and access points mapped to Solarwinds but when I click on the connect now button it only connects the switches together. It also misses the Unknown MPLS device despite having the include unidentified nodes button enabled. If I do a show cdp neighbors then it lists the inter-switch connections, the link to the access points and names the MPLS device. So what is Network Atlas using and what do I need to do to get the links to the WAPs showing correctly ?

Network Map/Atlas

Somewhat new to Solarwinds, we have identified a need to create a dashboard for several lines of business.  I am looking at creating maps that would show status of application servers that are dependent of other servers, down to switch and router interfaces.

Searched Thwack and have only found high level solutions and videos that show to just drag and drop and it works.  I am sure there are detailed end-to-end examples somewhere, I am not finding these.

Examples are to create groups/dependencies between the different level of servers that support each other and how that ties to the the network map and can show the rollup status, I hope that makes sense.

If anyone has or can point me to any information that would be great.

How to map VPN connections on Network Atlas?

We've recently purchased and installed a suite of Orion products including NPM, SAM, NCM, Netowrk Topology Mapper (a few others as well).  My issue is specifically with mapping VPN links in Network Atlas (or Network Topology Mapper).  According to the SW rep I spoke with, both NTM and Network Atlas use the CDP talbe and MAC table to identify links between nodes.  Well, we have about 20+ branch offices that all use IPSEC over VTI tunnels (Virtual Tunnel Interfaces) to connect back to HQ.  These tunnels do not support CDP and do not have MACs assigned to them, and consequently, the VPN links between a branch office and HQ are never detected in Network Atlas.    We run EIGRP between branch and HQ equipment, so I was thinking it might be possible to draw the link based on the EIGRP neighborship table.

I know that I'm not the first person to try and map VPN connections between devices, so I'm wondering what other people have done to solve this problem.  How do you map VPN links in Network Atlas or Netowrk Topology Mapper?

Engineer Toolset - SNMP Set Tool

I am working on integrating NTM and the Engineer Toolset. I have a number radio tower sites that I need to issue sets for specific OID's. This would allow our NOC to set/clear alarms and reset control units. Has anyone created a tool to issue SNMP sets?

I put in a manual hyper link to a shared file.

I can see the file by using the FireFox browser but when I try it thru Net. Perf. Monitor  I get:

Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, becasuse the protocol(n) isn't associated with any program.

n is the file system.

n:\Myfiles\showmemap

I guess my question is what/where do I do this association. REGEDIT?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me.

How do I get NTM to map ESXi Hosts ?,

I have tried accounts that are local to the Host, and Accounts that are in the Domain,..

I've been trying <username>@<domain>     and <domain>\<username>..   nothing works when I test the credentials.   The Box that I am testing on is Esxi 5.1,

I know the accounts are good as using them with vSphere works fine.

??  any idea's?  I am at a loss

Thanks in advance

NTM and orion integrate DB

It would be nice if Orion which has already completed a discovery of all my devices and stored in a DB would have the ability to integrate with NTM.  Having multiple scanning and SNMP creates a lot of unnecessary traffic.

Custom Node Roles and Editing Node Details

Having read through the documentation, it's a little vague.

And also just dropped the $$$ on the license thinking it was evaluation handicap.

Am I correct you can not edit or create a new Node Role or Machine Type?

How about editing the Node Details section? I see I can create new custom properties.

It appears the only way is to export as csv and edit there. But no way or importing the fixed variables.

I mean how about "Linux workstation" or "IP Camera"

We have over a hundred IP cameras, and it would be nice to assign them a custom node, and give them a custom Icon.

Any thoughts from the community or SolarWinds?

Thank you.

NTM Trial License service dies when running scan

Hi,

I downloaded NTM and trying to run it virtualized.  The install seems to work properly and NTM launches and I try to start a scan and it dies with...

Application Error - Network Topology Manager encountered an unexpected error and needs to close.  Before the scan the Solarwinds Network Topology Job Scheduler is running, but once the scan crashes, the service dies.  I can restart it by hand, but it just dies again when I start another scan.

Can NTM be run in a virualized environment?  I'll take any help I can get.  I pretty new to the Solarwinds Products.

This is running on a disconnected network.

If this has been answered somewhere else, please accept my apologies and point me in the correct direction. I am working a project for one of our city managers. I know that our wired devices and the devices connected by AP's can be detected and mapped but what I need to know is will NTM also detect and map our 4G (EtherWan) devices. We

NTM Feature Improvement?

Hey All,

We recently purchased NTM and while it provides some quick and dirty troubleshooting functionality for us right now, there are a few things it's lacking preventing us from using it as our sole mapping source.  One of which is the ability to add manual devices and connections to those devices for things like our Checkpoint firewalls.

There also seems to be some limitations with the scanning capabilities of the software, in that it doesn't always draw all of our links between devices.  Mainly we see this on some of our L3 connections.

Does anyone have any information on when or even if some of these enhanced features will be implemented?

It might also be helpful if someone could link to exactly HOW the software performs network scans (i.e. does it utilize CDP, the routing table, difference between 0 and 1 hop, etc.).  That might help me understand why some of my links aren't being drawn automatically.

Thanks in advance!

STP Status Unknown (NTM)

We have discovered more than 10000 devices and we have NTM configured to scan the location wise network, however after scanning it build the topology and connects to the appropriate devices.

But when the devices are getting connecting , in few devices i can see the STP status forwarding or blocking or listening but in more number of switches STP status is unknown.

Do we have any solution to overcome this issue.please suggest

I have also opened a support case, but was hoping my fellow Thwackers might be able to help me find the right answers more quickly!

Thank you in advance, ThwackStars!

Additionally, I saw a thread on NTM vs. UDT (User Device Tracker) for monitoring changes to network devices, or to work with Splunk, others?  Thoughts, opinions, real world advice?  And any experience getting data into SIEM?

Should I put NTM on my server or just install on one of our workstations?

So, We're finally planning on buying NTM and i'm a bit torn on how I should deploy it. I've looked around and saw a lot of people would install it on one of the servers and use it on that. Would it be better to just install it on the server and remote in and use it when we need to, or install it on a workstation and just use it there? and what would be the pros and cons of both?

Is there a trial product key for NTM to unlock a couple more features?

hello all,

I am curious to know if some how i were able to get some way of unlocking a few extra features with the NTM product? I am currently being tasked to search out a tool that will allow myself and other team members to not have to manually draw network design maps. I have tested other brands ex Intermapper they have been able to provide me with a couple of extra features to help with the decision process. Is this something that may be possible to acquire and if so how do i go about it?

Thank you
